Engineer of the Month Gáborné Dobosy

In December 2022 the Engineer of the Month on the Hungarian Constructors portal was Gáborné Dobosy, our Hajni.

We talked to our chief engineer Gáborné Dobosy, in connection with the "Engineer of the Month" award, with whom the Magyarépítők portal also made an interview. Hajni also talks about her career and projects.

The article highlights how work ethic and humility can form people's energies and how we can involve young people in projects.

Hajni has been drawn to the industry since childhood: "In the building fever of the 1980s, I was sneaking into every construction project I could," said the engineer, who was born in a small village near Tatabánya. Following her heart, she applied to the Vági István Vocational School of Construction in Budapest after elementary school. "It was an extremely tough school and a great foundation for the future of anyone who studied there. No surprise, that afterwards at the Ybl Miklós College I had an easier time than people from elsewhere, and I was able to pay more attention to what sector to choose."

After finishing school, she joined the army. In addition to the technical basics of military installations, she also had to learn the rules of the army, including military training.

Her next job was in the construction industry, and in particular on the client side: she continued her career at the Biatorbágy building authority. The significant agglomeration needs of Biatorbágy led to a high rate of investment, which provided her with a wealth of experience. She then worked for two years at the Municipality of Budavár, where she experienced a high level of public building renovation.

It was a major milestone in her life when she tried her hand in the market after the public sector.

After her first construction job, she received high appreciation from the company's management, because she was appointed from on-site engineer to construction manager within a year.

Her strong professional commitment is also much needed in her current job. LATEREX Építő Zrt. and VEMÉV-SZER Kft. in a joint consortium have been given the opportunity to completely renovate and restore eight listed buildings in the comprehensive development of the Veszprém Castle. "When I was renovating the Esterházy Castle in Tata, I felt that I would never face a greater challenge in my life. I now know that I have found the following biggest challenge," she said, reflecting on the importance of the project, in which she is the chief engineer.

The energy of young people results in great teamwork

"there are also many young people working with us in the Veszprém Castle, and I can feel that they want to solve the difficulties and learn the best methods. It's great to see that they never run out of energy, resulting in wonderful teamwork in this project with its unparallelled expectations."

Turning to motivation, she also highlighted the key role of praise: "I recently heard about the so-called 'Friday Praise' method, which at first I didn't believe was effective. But since I've been using it myself, I'm amazed at the positive impact and how much people want it." She added that she extends the praise to her entire project team of 20 people, regardless of which company in the consortium the engineer works for.
